Last week WSP Solicitors welcomed law student Esme to the firm, in our Stroud Head Office, for an invaluable week of hands-on work experience. She spent her time working within a number of our departments, and goes away with a better understanding of what life as a solicitor is really like. Her final task was to put her experience with us into words.
“I am a law Student at the University of Worcester going into my second year. I have spent the last week doing work experience in my local solicitors firm; WSP Solicitors.
During my time at WSP I was given the ability to explore a variety of different legal departments. I have been given valuable time to speak with many different professionals about the fields they work within, which has given me a greater insight into the potential areas I may want to explore as I progress with my degree.
Amongst some of my most interesting moments here have been when I have been able to observe Court proceedings. I spent two of my mornings in a local court hearing two different cases. Having read case summaries and information concerning the cases it was such a valuable opportunity to be able to witness first-hand the role of a solicitor in not only the discussion with clients but also when presenting in court. This experience gave me a great insight into the future environment I aim to be a part of, as well as giving me a better understanding of both the workings of a court and the roles of the professionals within.
My time at WSP has given me the opportunity to explore areas I previously thought I had no interest in specialising in. For example I spent time within the personal injury and private client departments which both have a greater focus on client interaction. I have found this to be something which really appeals me, and is a stark contrast to the area of company law which I previously had a keen interest in.
I have gained so much knowledge and enjoyment from my time here at WSP. I would love to thank everybody for giving me such a great first experience of a working law firm and for being so welcoming and engaging.”
